My home, my community

Introducing SMS verification for new Vivaldi Accounts.

Home means comfort, warmth, safety. Where you belong, just as you are. For many of us, the key to our first home unlocks independence, choice, and belonging.

We consider our Vivaldi community as home – an extended family of 500K members using our forum, blog publishing tools, webmail and a synchronised browsing experience.

It unlocks our future as contributing members of our community, our role as friends. And to keep our friends safe, we are constantly improving our community services.

One of the biggest menaces that we have come across is spam that continues to hamper community spirit. Spam is a huge waste of time and resources. Sneaky spammer tactics are a huge obstacle and we’ve been working on tackling this issue for a long time.

Now that we have a solution, we’d like to share it with you so that we can continue to create a safe space for a thriving community.

Our ad-free blogging platform and webmail are great tools for communication and getting your ideas out into the world. But while you use them, we want you to be safe from fraudulent users.

And to do this, we need your support. We ask you for your phone number for some of our services. You may wonder “why?”!

Your phone number is an added level of security. The whole process is implemented with the help of a third-party service, Nexmo, that sends you an SMS. Please be assured that your phone number will not be used for anything but account verification. You can read more about their privacy policy.

To give you more clarity on this, we will verify your newly created Vivaldi Account. This depends on the type of services you intend to use.

  • Syncing browser data or posting to the Vivaldi Forum: email verification only.
  • Using webmail or publishing blog posts: SMS verification.

Our aim in introducing this new step is to put an end to any unwanted, unsolicited digital communication.

We’ve built a solid foundation already – both in terms of the platform’s capability, and the number of people using it! And we’ll continue to add value to our community with necessary steps, such as this one.

Let’s continue to walk together, at every step.
